Take Control of Your Job Search – Target Companies
Recently a ProMatcher presented a great workshop on developing and using a list of companies to target in you job search. According to a 2012 study performed by CareerXroads, at least 75% of all available jobs are filled through employee referrals, social media recruiting and hiring managers’ personal networks – the hidden job market. This is where you can have the most productive job search experience.
So what do you do? Use Linkedin, the A to A Databases, etc, to brainstorm employers you would like to work for, whether of not they are hiring. Then brainstorm industry leaders, check out competitors, vendors and clients of previous companies you worked for. Use the Job Journal and other resources to find companies of interest in the news. Do a geographic search. Network with former co-workers.
